How Religious Hate is Destroying Our Brotherhood in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir has always been a land known for its beauty—not just the mountains and rivers, but also the beauty of its people, culture, and brotherhood. For centuries, people of different religions—Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists—lived here together like a family. We helped each other in times of need, celebrated each other’s festivals, and stood united against any challenge. But today, this bond is slowly breaking. And the main reason behind it is religious hate.

The Growing Divide

In recent years, we have seen an increase in religious tension. Social media, news channels, and even some political speeches are spreading anger and misunderstanding among different religious communities. Instead of promoting peace, many platforms are dividing us by focusing only on our differences. People are being judged by what they believe in, instead of who they are as human beings.

This hate has reached schools, workplaces, and even homes. Friends become strangers. Neighbours who once shared meals now stay silent. This is not the Kashmir we grew up in. This is not the India we are proud of.

Who is Responsible?

Religious hatred is not born in the hearts of people. It is planted. Some politicians, in order to gain votes, use religion to divide people. They know that if we fight among ourselves, we will forget the real issues—like unemployment, poverty, and corruption. Some news channels give space to hate speeches just for TRP. And on social media, fake messages and edited videos are shared without checking facts.

But blaming others is not enough. We must also look at ourselves. Are we sharing messages of hate without thinking? Are we silent when someone spreads lies about another community? If yes, then we are also part of the problem.

The Cost of Hatred

Religious hate is not just destroying peace—it is destroying lives. Violence between communities has taken many innocent lives. It has broken families, burned homes, and left deep mental scars. Children grow up seeing this hate and think it’s normal. But hate is never normal. Hate leads only to more hate.

In Kashmir, we know the pain of conflict better than anyone. We have already lost too much in wars, terrorism, and political conflicts. Can we really afford to lose more because of hate?

Rebuilding Brotherhood

The solution is simple, but it requires effort. We need to talk to each other, understand each other, and respect each other. We need to teach our children that religion is a personal belief, not a weapon. We should speak up when we see someone spreading hate—whether it’s in person or online.

Our strength lies in our unity. When a Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and Christian stand together as brothers, no force can break us. We must remember that the real enemy is not our neighbour from another religion, but the hate that is being pushed into our minds.

A Message of Hope

Jammu and Kashmir has always stood as a symbol of unity in diversity. Let’s not allow a few voices of hate to destroy centuries of love and brotherhood. Let us come together once again—not as members of different religions, but as humans first. Because peace is not given, it is built—with love, respect, and understanding.

Let’s start rebuilding our brotherhood today.
