Kupwara Observes World Hepatitis Day with Comprehensive Awareness and Health Outreach Activities

Kupwara, July 28 – The District Administration Kupwara, in collaboration with the Department of Health, today
observed World Hepatitis Day through a series of awareness and service delivery initiatives aimed at preventing and
controlling viral hepatitis. The activities were held under the aegis of the Director Health Services, Kashmir, and with
the continued support and guidance of the Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), J&K.
The programme commenced with a district-level awareness rally flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara,
Madam Ayushi Sudan (IAS), in the presence of Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani, and Deputy Chief Medical
Officer, Dr. Mohammad Ashraf. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from nursing students, healthcare
workers, ASHA personnel, and members of the general public, all advocating for the elimination of hepatitis through
community engagement and informed health practices.
The district-level programme, held at the ANM Training School, featured health education sessions, screening
facilities, and interactive discussions led by medical professionals and public health experts. Emphasis was placed on
this year’s global theme and the importance of timely testing, treatment, and vaccination.
In parallel, screening camps and Hepatitis B vaccination drives were organized at various health institutions including
Sub-District Hospitals, Primary Health Centres, and Health & Wellness Centres across all blocks. These activities were
designed to reach vulnerable and high-risk populations with essential diagnostic and preventive services.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening public
health outreach and achieving the WHO goal of eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat. Chief Medical Officer
Kupwara Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani commended the efforts of the district health teams and reaffirmed the department’s
commitment to expanding hepatitis-related services throughout the district.
The programme reflects the broader commitment of the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir, and the National
Health Mission, J&K, to address communicable diseases through integrated, community-based strategies.
The District Health Society Kupwara will continue its efforts in the coming days with intensified IEC campaigns,
outreach camps, and follow-up initiatives to ensure maximum public benefit.
