In 8th Edition of Harmony India Awards, the jury council has selected 18 awardees this year for the awards. The unanimously selected awardees are to be felicitated for their extra ordinary achievements and for their outstanding contribution to the art, culture, growth and development of J&K and nation. The award ceremony is going to be held in the evening of Friday on 28th October 2022 at Shri Ram Centre Auditorium, one of Delhi's best known theatres at Mandi House on Safdar Hashmi Marg, New Delhi.
Harmony India Awards has become the most prestigious and rare honor in J&K who have felicitated more than 50 Awardees for their stellar contribution. Some of them include- Dr. Meem Hai Zafar, Dr. Agnishekhar, Ashok Pandit, Late Dina Nath ‘Nadim’, Zareef Ahmad Zareef, Krishan Langoo, Mushtaq Kak, Dr. Radhika Chopra, Dr. Aziz Hajini, Late P.N.Handoo, Late O N Kaul, Late P N Kaul ‘Sayil’, Sushil Pandit, Avtar Bhat, Sanjeev Pargal, Singer Waheed Jeelani, Aditya Raj Kaul, Kiran Wattal, Akshay Labroo, Rahul Bhat, Ravinder Kaul, Anil Bhat, Veer Munshi, Kailash Mehra, Late Mohan Nirash. These awards & honors reflect the changing face of Jammu & Kashmir and has become the greatest medium in strengthening and bridging the gap and presenting the ethos of state among the nations.
This year three more categories have been introduced in the honouring ceremony as National Icon Award, Pt. Bhajan Sopori Smriti Samman and Harmony India Special Award. The nominations and selections are reviewed by the jury committee which consists of Sh. Veer Munshi(Artist), Smt. Nirupama Kotru(IRS & Culture Ambassador), Sh. Krishan Langoo(Music Composer) and Sh. Ravinder Kaul(Journalist & Art Critic) in consideration with the president of the foundation, Sh. Romesh Zadoo.
“These honours are the dedicated efforts to recognise, thank, acknowledge, appreciate and encourage the contributions of the creative personalities, artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, journalists, sportspersons, and social activists, who have outshined in their respective fields, have brought glory to the success of Jammu & Kashmir and have immensely contributed to the growth and development of our nation” said Singer-Music Composer, Saurabh Zadoo who’s director of Harmony India.
Ever since it’s inception, the aim is also to preserve, promote and propagate states art, culture and showcase the diversity of the tradition. 8th edition will feature performances by Indian Harmonies Choir of J&K who last year performed at the inaugural ceremony of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in front of PM Modi. Also featuring would be the short documentary on saint of santoor maestro Pt. Bhajan Sopori who recently passed away, followed by the award ceremony.
Life time achievement award’ for this year is being conferred upon Prof. Rattan Lal Shant, Sahitya Academy Awardee, eminent author, for his outstanding contribution in the field of Kashmiri Literature and Language.
Pt. Bhajan Sopori Smriti Samman is being conferred upon Smt. Shameem Dev Azad, Padmashri Awardee, Indian Singer known for her melodious voice.
National Icon Award is being conferred upon Sh. M.K.Raina, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, Indian theatre actor and director.
Harmony India Special Award for this year is being conferred upon Dr. Darakshan Andrabi for her Literature and Social work and to NGO Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sewa Dal, represented by Sh.Jitender Singh Shunty, Padmashri Awardee.
Shrestha Samman is being conferred upon Sh. Veerinder Patwari for his immense contribution in the field of Literature.
Shrestha Samman’ is being conferred upon Indian Sculptor Padmashri Rajendar Tiku for his contribution in the field of Fine Arts.
Shrestha Samman is being conferred upon Smt. Brij Kishori Zutshi for her contribution in the field of Acting.
The Samman is given in recognition of the outstanding contribution by personalities in their respective fields.
‘State Icon Award’ is being conferred upon Ms. Pooja Shali towards her contribution in the field of Journalism, Singer Sh. Jitender Singh in the field of Performing Arts, Sh.Kuldeep Handoo for Sports, Smt. Nirmala Dhar for Acting.
‘Community Icon Award’ is being conferred upon Mr. Sumeet Bhat of Purkhoo Camp, Helpline Humanity NGO represented by Sh. Manoj Bhat, Hakhoo Street Animals Foundation represented by Ms. Namrata Hakhoo for their community services. Entrepreneurs Surender & Nalini Sadhu for promoting culture through their Matamaal Venture.
‘Yuva Puraskar’ is being conferred upon young and dynamic personalities, Ms.Pallavi Sareen as journalist and Ms.Sunanda Khajuria in the field of Art. These honours are for being an inspiration to youth.
