Government Medical College Doda Hosts CME on Monkeypox .

Doda, August 21, 2024 – Government Medical College (GMC) Doda hosted a crucial Continuing Medical Education (CME) event centered on monkeypox, showcasing the collaborative efforts of its Departments of Community Medicine, Microbiology, and Internal Medicine. The CME was conducted under the leadership of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl, who played a key role in orchestrating the event. The CME featured a series of comprehensive sessions by Dr. Walied K Balwan from the Department of Community Medicine who discussed epidemiological burden and effective preventive measures, vaccination strategies, and public health initiatives aimed at controlling the spread of monkeypox within communities.

Dr. Muhammad Arif Kelam from the Department of Internal Medicine delivered an in-depth presentation on recognizing and managing the clinical symptoms of monkeypox, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.Dr. Sufhia Akhter Khan from the Department of Microbiology provided an overview of advanced diagnostic methods and laboratory techniques crucial for accurate monkeypox testing, including the latest in PCR and serological assays. In his address, Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl highlighted the significant burden that monkeypox poses on public health. He emphasized the critical need for preventive measures to reduce the risk of transmission, including vaccination, improved hygiene practices, and community awareness campaigns.
Dr.Bahl stressed that a coordinated approach is essential for managing and mitigating the impact of monkeypox outbreaks,futher added that CME provided a platform for medical professionals to engage in meaningful discussions about best practices and strategies to handle monkeypox effectively. This CME underscores GMC Doda’s commitment to advancing medical knowledge and enhancing healthcare preparedness. Under Principal Dr. Bahl’s leadership, the institution continues to play a vital role in public health education and response efforts.
