Kupwara Begins SAANS 2025–26: Campaign to Combat Childhood Pneumonia Launched
Kupwara, Dec — The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kupwara today inaugurated a one-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on the Management of Childhood Pneumonia under the SAANS (Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully) initiative.
The programme was formally launched by the Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, in collaboration with Bal Raksha Bharat (Save the Children), Harish & Bina Shah Foundation, and Sattva, marking the beginning of the SAANS Campaign 2025–2026, themed “Breath of Life – Combatting Childhood Pneumonia.”
The campaign aims to reduce the rising burden of childhood pneumonia and enhance community-level awareness. The slogan “Pneumonia Nahe Toh Bachpan Sahi” reflects the mission to ensure a safe and healthy childhood free from pneumonia.
Under this district-wide initiative, multiple activities and interventions will be carried out, including:
The mission of the campaign is to move towards a “Pneumonia-Free Childhood”, ensuring a healthier and safer future for all children in Kupwara.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Medical Officer Kupwara emphasized that the SAANS Campaign will play a pivotal role in strengthening child health services across the district with the active support of all collaborating organizations.
The dignitaries present included Dr. Zaffar Akber (CMO), Dr. Mohd Ashraf (Dy. CMO), Mr. G. R. Mir (District ASHA Coordinator), Dr. Naseer Ahmad (District Epidemiologist), Mr. Sharif Bhat (Head J&K & Ladakh, Bal Raksha Bharat), Mr. Muzamil Lone (Assistant Manager, Bal Raksha Bharat), Mr. Shafeeq (Coordinator, BRB), BMOs, BMEOs, and BACs.
