Marmat, Oct 30:

The residents of Marmat in District Doda are once again suffering due to the alleged negligence of the PMGSY department, as the Bhargran–Mangota Behota road has been closed for vehicular movement since this morning.

According to locals, a protection wall collapsed near Prabble Dehra after the road embankment eroded, making the stretch completely unsafe. The collapse has cut off vehicular connectivity, leaving residents stranded and facing immense hardships.

People blame the PMGSY department for its careless approach toward maintenance. “We have repeatedly urged the concerned officials to repair the damaged portions properly, but no one listens,” said a local resident, expressing anger over the department’s inaction.

Reports suggest that heavy rainfall in recent months had already damaged several parts of the road. Although the department had cleared the route for traffic temporarily, the repair work remained unsatisfactory. As a result, the wall gave way again, blocking the road entirely.

Locals allege that the department seems to be waiting for a major accident before taking serious measures. They also pointed out that other roads in the area — including Khelani to Dranga Kanthi and Bhargran to Barri — are in a similarly dilapidated condition, demanding urgent repairs.

The residents have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Doda to personally review the matter and ensure immediate action. They expressed hope that, given her active approach toward public issues, the DC will also pay attention to the plight of Marmat residents and direct the concerned authorities to restore the road without delay.
