The  regularization of Safayi karamcharis in Jammu &Kashmir is a matter that demands urgent attention and justice. These workers, who dedicate their lives to maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the city, play an essential role in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all. Despite their tireless efforts and invaluable contribution to society, they often face job insecurity, irregular wages, and a lack of recognition. Regularizing their employment is not just a matter of fairness but a step toward acknowledging the dignity of their labour. These karamcharis work under challenging conditions, often exposing themselves to health hazards, yet their efforts are taken for granted. The safayi karamcharis  unblock sewage canals, ensuring the smooth flow of waste, and work tirelessly during hours when the entire city sleeps, cleaning streets and maintaining hygiene. Their labor is not just about cleanliness; it is about safeguarding the health and dignity of the city. Despite the critical nature of their work, they are often treated as invisible, denied the respect and regularized employment they rightfully deserve. 

The safayi karamcharis ,despite their invaluable contributions to the city’s cleanliness and hygiene, face immense hardships in their personal lives. Their meager earnings are insufficient to meet even basic expenses, making it nearly impossible for them to provide quality education for their children. This financial strain not only affects their present but also jeopardizes the future of their families, as their children are deprived of the opportunities needed to break the cycle of poverty. These workers, who toil tirelessly to ensure the well-being of society, deserve better. Regularizing their employment would not only provide financial stability but also empower them to invest in their children’s education and secure a brighter future. It is time the government and administration recognize their struggles and not take their hard work for granted, but instead honor them by ensuring their rights and treating them with the respect they deserve. It is the responsibility of the administration and the government to address this long-standing issue and provide them with the stability and benefits they deserve.  Only assurances are not enough, granting them regularized status, the authorities would not only secure their livelihoods but also send a strong message that their work is respected and valued. Justice for these workers is justice for the foundation of public health and cleanliness in Doda .
